VaultUp is the AI money coach built for 16–28 year olds — not generic tips, not passive automation. A coach that knows your numbers and helps you save for the things that actually matter.
As a finance professional who studied in the UK, I watched friends — and myself — struggle with money not because we were bad with it, but because every tool out there tells you what not to do. Cut the coffee. Cancel the subscription. Stop going out.
Real life doesn't work like that. People don't need more guilt — they need a plan for the things they actually want. A holiday. A car. An emergency fund. A night out with people they care about.
VaultUp is built around a different assumption: that the habit of saving comes from having something worth saving for, not from being told what to cut.
VaultUp isn't built for one country or one currency. It's built for anyone who wants to save with intention — wherever they are, whatever they earn in.
The problem isn't information — it's personalisation. Nobody was building a product that spoke to this demographic as individuals, not categories.
of 18–28 year olds in the UK have no structured savings habit. The problem is not information — it's that nobody talks to them as individuals. (FCA Financial Lives Survey, 2022)
Most young adults receive zero personalised financial guidance from their bank or employer. Monzo shows you a pie chart. Chip moves money silently. Nobody explains anything.
Junior ISAs, Plan 2 student loans, starter salaries — complex decisions at exactly the wrong time to be left without guidance. VaultUp's AI coach Val knows these rules and applies them to your situation.
VaultUp's AI coach knows your actual income, spending breakdown, goal progress percentages, group pot balances, and streak before answering a single question. Not generic. Not a bot. A coach.
Powered by Anthropic Claude. Val knows your income, spending categories, every goal's progress percentage, group pot balances, streak and XP before you ask. Real advice, real numbers, zero waffle.
LiveSet savings goals with targets and monthly commitments. Progress resets automatically each month — but your full history is permanently saved in Supabase. Val knows your ETA to every goal.
LiveCreate a group, share an invite link. Each member gets their own isolated pot — money never mixes. Group balance is the sum of individual pots. Admin controls membership. Exit = money back.
LiveChoose your currency at sign-up or change it any time: £ GBP, $ USD, € EUR, ₹ INR, د.إ AED. Val adapts her coaching to your currency automatically — every number, every goal, every insight in your money.
LiveTrack across five categories: Rent/bills, Food, Subscriptions, Travel, Other. The "unaccounted" figure (income minus spending minus savings) is what Val uses to find where money is disappearing.
LiveFCA-aligned integration roadmap: TrueLayer read-only (Phase 2), GoCardless direct debits (Phase 3), Modulr pooled accounts (Phase 4). Regulatory pathway documented at every phase.
RoadmapBefore you type a word, Val already knows your complete financial picture. Every message triggers a rebuild of a dynamic system prompt containing your income, spending, goals, group pots, streak, and XP. The AI sees your life before it sees your question.
"You've got £1,800 in and £1,270 tracked. That's £530 unaccounted." Not "try to spend less."
UK-specific guardrails hardcoded — Junior ISA £9k/yr, Cash ISA £20k/yr, Plan 2 student loan 9% above £27,295
Multi-turn dialogue — full conversation history sent with every API call. Val remembers the thread.

Architected around the FCA's Open Banking initiative (OBIE, PSD2). Each phase adds capability without a rebuild — the individual pot architecture and AI coaching layer scale through every phase.
Val coaches users based on their complete financial profile. Real user accounts with Supabase auth and Row Level Security. Group savings with individual pots and working invite links. Monthly history snapshots. Multi-currency support (£, $, €, ₹, د.إ) with full AI awareness. Zero FCA registration required — no financial activity by VaultUp.
Frontend refactor to React components. Open Banking read-only connection via TrueLayer (AISP scope — TrueLayer holds the FCA licence, VaultUp integrates via API). Val auto-detects contributions from real transaction data. No manual spending entry needed.
Member sets a monthly amount. GoCardless handles the Direct Debit mandate. Money moves automatically on payday. Group pot contributions happen without manual action.
Each member's group pot becomes a real ring-fenced sub-account under a partner's FCA e-money licence — own sort code and account number. Automated returns on exit via Faster Payments. And because the money is real and pooled, interest on balances becomes possible — the same structure Chip and Plum use today. VaultUp's goal is to combine that return with something they don't have: a coach who helped you save in the first place.
From saving for a holiday to building a house deposit — tax-free group investment pots for long-term shared goals. VaultUp transitions from savings app to wealth platform. The full arc from age 16 to 28, globally.

VaultUp was born from a personal frustration. As someone studying finance — ACCA part-qualified, MSc in Accounting and Finance — I knew exactly how money worked in theory. Balance sheets, cash flow models, yield curves. But none of that helped me, or anyone I knew, actually save consistently in real life.
The people I was watching struggle weren't careless. They were 19, 22, 25 — in their first jobs, earning money for the first time, trying to figure it out. Nobody was talking to them. Nobody said: "You've got £1,800 coming in this month — here's where it's going and here's what you should do."
My long-term vision is simple: I want to help every individual save for what matters to them — and see VaultUp as their own vault to do exactly that. Not a bank. Not a budgeting tool. A vault. Whether they're in Bristol, Mumbai, Dubai, or anywhere else. The coaching is the same. The context is theirs.
Built solo, deployed in 8 weeks, 51 real users, zero paid acquisition — and a clear 5-phase roadmap to becoming the first AI-native wealth platform built around that belief.
